A bit about me:

I’m a textile designer, embroidery and textile artist, and teacher. You can see my work on my Facebook page: Muscat Embroidery Itamar Sagi. You can also view my embroidered books in YouTube videos: “Miklat” and “Ma’agal Yoni HaKemach”, or experience them firsthand at the new National Library—for anyone visiting there—my latest work “Neharet Netafim”, a Torah ark curtain in the synagogue of the library (Level -3).

Workshop Essence:

The session focuses on creating a plan for the layout and placement of design elements in a composition that forms a complete creation—either in fabric quilting or embroidery patterns, according to each participant’s choice.

Gradation means gradual development, and we will play with the shapes of various design elements until we arrive at a result that’s not based on a traditional pattern but on personal development—a design that expresses movement, an unfolding story, surprising progression, and visual interest.

You’ll be able to translate this design structure into fabric quilting or a scaled-down embroidery plan, and depending on your personal pace and the workshop’s duration, start executing it. I’ll offer guidance on textile techniques, color use, and embroidery process throughout.

Materials & Equipment:

  • Large paper for drawing your full design plan
  • Sketch paper for drawing and cutting
  • Optional: Transparent paper and carbon paper (I’ll bring extras if needed)
  • Bristol board or thin cardboard that’s easy to cut
  • Pencils, eraser, sharpener, rulers, paper scissors
  • Optional: Cutting mat and knife depending on personal habits

If you choose to work with quilting:

  • Selection of fabrics
  • Pins, needles, fabric scissors
  • Fabric marking tools
  • A large piece of fabric for the base
  • Manual sewing tools or a sewing machine—up to your preference

If you choose embroidery:

  • Light-colored base fabric for design marking
  • Selection of embroidery threads
  • Scissors, thread cutter, matching needles
  • Fabric marking tools as per your personal habits

Feel free to call me with any questions or if you’re unsure about anything. With best regards,
